Biography
Never one to play it safe behind the decks during his DJ sets, Ulysses draws from a wide repertoire of musical styles ranging from house, slow-mo beat down bangers, disco, jazz, techno, broken beats, and anything that is across the sonic spectrum. His genre-bending sets are said to have one of the most impressive playlists, garnering respect and admiration from his peers. “Good music is simply good music. I refuse to be pigeon-holed and the crowd shouldn’t be either!” This personal philosophy and love for quality music has led him to co-founding the quartet MUGIC, infamous for their parties at the now defunct Night and Day Bar and also spreading their musical vibes at The Observatory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Together withMUGIC, Ulysses has also been featured at various top notch venues around the island including the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Music Festival. Focusing more as an individual DJ, he’s also a regular feature for Singapore’s leading party promoter The Council SG, having played for their pop up parties and also being on the regular line up at The Headquarters which is one of the few leading underground clubs in Singapore. Ulysses has also featured at street parties and is currently holding weekly club / bar residencies at Kilo Lounge and also Ce La Vi Singapore. Ulysses has also played alongside some of Singapore’s finest tastemakers and luminaries from the world over such as Jerome Syndenham, Prins Thomas, Francois K, Deetron, Todd Terje, Jus-Ed, Kay Suzuki, Jonathan Kusuma, Tony Lionni, Nick Hoppner, Eric Duncan, Gerd Janson, Honey Dijon, A Guy Called Gerald, Borrowed Identity, Jimpster, Hunee, Peggy Gou, DJ Tennis, Lauer and Virginia to name a few. He has also been invited twice to perform on Lush 99.5FM’s “Clubscape with Chris Ho” and more recently having been invited to spread his gospel of dance music in Manila’s infamous Time Club. Apart from being behind the DJ console, Ulysses also served as Potato Head Singapore’s Music Consultant, a role that has seen him curating and overseeing the musical aesthetics of the brand’s restaurant and bar. Whether he is easing the dance floor into a trancey and hypnotic vibe with the dark sounds of techno, or lifting them up with pumping house and disco, he knows how to rock a party and one should expect nothing less than quality sounds from Ulysses.
